How a Texas tax bill is assembled
Your total rate is the sum of every taxing unit whose boundary contains your parcel:
- County — 0.377%, the same for every parcel in the county
- County-wide units — Lone Star College System at 0.106%, Montgomery County Hospital District at 0.047%
- School district — usually the largest single component (10 districts)
- City — only if the parcel is inside city limits (15 cities)
- Special district — a MUD, WCID or ESD (203 districts)
Rates are stated per $100 of assessed value. A rate of 0.377% means $0.377 of county tax per $100 of value.
